GIF (Gesellschaft für Industrieforschung) is founded in Aachen, Germany. The company focuses on developing torque sensors and testing solutions for the automotive industry. It is founded by researchers from RWTH Aachen University, one of Germany’s leading universities of excellence.

Early leadership in torque measurement

GIF establishes itself as a key supplier of torque sensors for drivetrain validation. First high-speed measuring flanges are introduced. Customer base expands to major OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.

Expansion into drivetrain testing

Beyond sensors, GIF begins offering full drivetrain test bench solutions — including endurance, efficiency, and functional testing. Testing becomes a core business area.

Entry into environmental simulation & calibration

Environmental chambers and calibration labs are integrated into the testing infrastructure. ISO/IEC 17025 certification follows for calibration services.

Global expansion of testing facilities

ATESTEO opens new locations in China and Japan. Additional test benches in Alsdorf, Kassel, and Garching by Munich extend capacity for hybrid and electric drivetrain testing.

Modular torque sensor systems

Launch of the F Series with torque ranges up to 250,000 Nm. Enhanced measurement electronics and CAN interfaces. Development of test procedures for EVs and plug-in hybrids.

GIF becomes ATESTEO

International rebranding to ATESTEO. Support for electrified drivetrain architectures begins.

ATESTEO becomes part of the IHO Holding

As a member of the IHO Holding, ATESTEO gains new strategic momentum and access to a global network of automotive expertise — accelerating its international growth in testing and engineering.

Calibration labs extended

ATESTEO expands its accredited calibration services in Germany and Asia, supporting customer-specific sensor setups and validation documentation.

Launch of e-mobility testing platforms

New test rigs for electric axles, high-voltage systems, and multi-speed EV transmissions go live. Simulation of energy flows and thermal behavior becomes standard.
